Troop 3851 is a Scout-led organization which focuses and uses the Methods of Scouting to ensure each scout develops character, citizenship and mental and physical fitness.
Troop 3851 is a Scout-led organization. Scouts select, schedule, plan and execute all of their own activities. In order to achieve such, the youth leaders and members feel an ownership of their own roles and excitement in what the Troop is and does. The Senior Patrol Leader and the Patrol Leaders Council focus on making Scouting fun in each and every Troop and Patrol meeting, activity and event. A Scout-led Troop requires the adult leaders to provide leadership training, guidance and support as each scout learns his role.
"The patrol method is not 'a' way to operate a Boy Scout troop, it is the only way." The patrol method allows Scouts to not get lost in the larger context of the Troop, as well as allow for more meaningful and relevant activities for each member. They share the responsibility to make the Patrol a success.
The Scout Oath and the Scout Law are our Code of Conduct. The most important word in the Scout Law is "is", therefore each Scout and adult leader does his best to exemplify and be each one of those characteristics. It is the Troop's expectation that all Scouts follow the Scout Oath and the Scout Law.
Troop 3851 engages in a wide range of outdoor activities and high adventure experiences that are selected, scheduled, organized and led by the Scouts. The Troop will have at least one outing monthly, multiple high adventure outings each year, a week-long high adventure outing in the summer, and will attend summer camp. These activities will include mountaineering, cycling, and other high adventure opportunities for all members. Planning outings focus on the Methods of Scouting. All outings will be in accordance with the Guide to Safe Scouting.
Troop 3851 offers an Advancement program as a means of helping Scouts develop a wide range of skills and abilities, and to recognize Scouts for their achievements. Advancement is just one of the Methods of Scouting, but the most recognizable. Each activity will encompass advancement opportunities. Older Scouts will provide leadership and instruction to younger Scouts as they advance through First Class. The Troop will provide sufficient opportunities for a motivated scout to earn their First Class rank within of year after they join the Troop.
Troop 3851 will make service a focus. The Troop will include service projects in its Annual Plan. The Troop is committed to assisting Eagle Scout candidates in the service projects that they organize. Troop 3851 views community service as a community affair and encourages our family and friends to participate
Troop 3851 will emphasize unity and inclusion. The Troop will make efforts to include all scouts and visitors. We want the troop to be a place where everyone feels includes and where they know they have friends to support them and encourage them with their goals.
Most of all, Scouting is Fun!
