Troop 3851
South Jordan, Utah
South Jordan, Utah
Troop 3851 is a Scouts BSA troop formed by a group of “all in” scouters from the South Jordan City area who believe that scouting has an important role in the building of youth in our community. If there ever was a need for the youth in our community to hold to the values of scouting, it is now! We’ve recently been adopted by the South Jordan Firefighters’ Union – local 3851! (register)
Calendar (both in-persona and virtual options available)
We need people who are trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, brave, clean, and reverent. We need people who will do their best to do their duty to their God and country, and help other people. Who will keep themselves physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.
We look forward to building a troop where everyone feels welcome and part of the team. We look forward to exploring the world around us and developing skills that not only help one thrive in the great out doors, but thrive in our community.
Troop 3851 Vision:
"By the next planning conference, as we grow older and mature, we will have helped one another by being hard workers, united, and kind to each other. We will be an independent, self-led troop, being smarter and more knowledgeable" - Sept 15, 2023. Written by the scouts (not the adults).
Troop Goals (9/15/2023): (still needs refinement)
The Patrol Leaders' Council will lead the troop, ensuring the Troop's desires are implemented by preparing detailed plans each month for at least one month in the future
The Troop will help each other advance at least on rank by the next planning conference
No scout will need to have his parent talked to about unclean language over the next year
The Troop will help each other earn at least 4 merit badges each by the next planning conference
The Patrol Leader's Council will review progress on Advancement to ensure each scout is getting the help they need
Each member of the Troop will invite at least 1 person to visit/join the Troop over the next year
Again, these were developed and set by the scouts of the Troop, not the adult leaders.
Adult Troop Leadership: (I’ve only listed the primary roles and will list others with their approval)
Committee Chair: David Yeager
Scoutmaster: Hank Hoffer
Charter Rep: Bruce Chapel
The troop has a Troop 3851 Slack Space where Leaders, Scouts, and Parents can easily communicate, share, and find out information. Most information is shared in this location, so please reach out to one of the leaders to join.
We have found a home! A HUGE thanks to the Fire Fighters' Union of South Jordan for stepping up and adopting us! We hope to make them proud!
If you are interested in volunteering with this troop or registering you boy, you can click here to register. An interesting concept is that you are NOT locked into going to a troop because of boundaries – there are NO boundaries. You are only limited by the distance you want to travel to the meeting site. So, you are welcome to find a troop that best fits your scout.
Dues: We are requiring $15 per month. This covers the cost of the campsite and travel as well as the cost of advancement awards. Monthly we'll do an activity which might have an additional cost. On the campouts, we'll make food assignments to help keep the monthly fees low.
Outdoor gear … like:
Camping / Cooking / Backpacks
Tents – I prefer light weight 2-4 man tents over the heavy canvas tents
Uniforms
Folding tables and chair for the meeting place
Of course, we’ll take money to, but we’re not setup as a non-profit yet, so it won’t be tax deductible.
